An elegant sterling silver compact and cigarette case from the glamorous world of 1920s Palm Beach society, bearing an intertwined “C.P.” monogram corresponding with the initials of Charlotte Phipps, a member of the influential Phipps family, Daughter of Henry Phipps Jr. (a partner of Andrew Carnegie Steel Industrialist) and his wife Anne whose estates and social life helped define Palm Beach’s celebrated winter season.

Crafted in solid sterling silver with finely executed engine-turned guilloché decoration, this beautifully designed vanity case reflects the refined craftsmanship associated with the luxury American silver workshops of the early twentieth century.

During the Jazz Age, Palm Beach became America’s most fashionable winter resort, where evening gatherings centered around the famed Everglades Club. Society women attending these events frequently carried elegant compact cigarette cases such as this one.
